COMMUNITY "MINGAS" (Community Improvements)

In Ecuador a MINGA is a community team work which several labor activities take place: the improvement of the school desks, the improvement of the kindergarten Angel Alarcon, located in Las Naves county; in the Technical School of Las Naves, working along with the Parents Committee and its authorities to build the hygienic batteries of these establishments, improve the roads to Naves Chico. With these accomplishments, several communities were benefited, materials were provided for sewerage for the Fire Brigades, and arrangements for the Echeandia Stadium.

As part of our Enterpreneur Social Responsibility policy we support the ventures of the community actors with the purpose of potentializing their capabilities, developing their strengths and influence in the welfare of the environment.

To undertake this program, The Foundation COADE, along with Curimining S.A. and the local government of Las Naves, carried out the Sewing Workshop with the Professional Training Service SECAP, of the Ministry of Labor Relations in the city of Las Naves from October 2011, with the participation of 32 people of the communities of Las Naves county; and the parrish of San Luis de Pambil of Guaranda county. The workshop concluded on January 2012 and the participants were granted their certification by the SECAP.

Through this program we have implemented an appropriate mechanism for the sensibility and community formation in environment issues.

As part of the permanent social work of Curimining S.A. we have designed the “Mining Tour 2011” where we can invite many institutions to visit the site, and see the advanced exploration phase carrying out in Las Naves Chico, jurisdiction of Las Naves County. Many students, teachers, and family members of the schools from many communities have visited the site, also officers and employees of public and private companies, members of civil society organizations; directors and members of organization groups and farmers; mayors and councilors of local governments; local, provincial, regional and national authorities, giving special priority to the citizens of San Luis of Pambil, Las Naves, Quinsaloma, Echeandia and Ventanas. Up to the present date 1,110 people have visited the advanced exploration operations, which have enabled the communities to be informed of our work.

As part of our main interest to improve the environmental conditions in the zone and considering that there are high indicators of reforestation in the study zones, this has motivated us to implement community nursery for the production and recovery of native species, fruits, ornaments and medicines. Also, this serves the rehabilitation of the site where exploration activities took place, in coordination with the communities, sectional government and Universities. They have planted 90,000 plants in 2011. Between 2007 and 2010, under the same system, 150,000 plants have been planted.
